"...to stay clean and carry the message of recovery to the still-suffering addict"
WHERE CALLED UPON BY ANY LOCAL COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION OUTSIDE OF NA:
We make our presence and information available at recovery-related events.
We provide presentations to outside organizations and answer questions.
We make contact with and stay available to provide resources to any organization that comes in contact with suffering addicts.
WHERE CALLED UPON BY MIAMI VALLEY AREA GROUPS AND SUBCOMMITTEES:
We will meet with Organizations and Institutions where any NA Meeting, NA Subcommittee or NA Event is held to clarify NA's willingness and limitations in cooperating with them.
In Narcotics Anonymous Public Relations, we acknowledge that we're "a part of," not "apart from" the community around us. We cannot play our part in fulfilling our fellowship's primary purpose on our own resources alone. And the actions we take to fulfill our primary purpose affect our community, not just our fellowship.
Narcotics Anonymous can learn much from the society around us. Others have done many of the same kinds of things we seek to do. We can learn from them.
We don't have all the answers for every troubled person in our community; we don't even have all the answers for every drug addict in our community.
In Narcotics Anonymous, one addict shares his experience, strength, and hope with another.
Humility means recognizing the place we occupy in our community. We have a particular role to play, and a very useful one at that. Our role is different from others'. It's not necessarily better or worse than the role played by others who focus on addiction and recovery--it's just different.
Through all of our service efforts and our cooperation with others seeking to help addicts, we strive to reach a day when every addict in the world has an opportunity to experience our message of recovery in his or her own language and culture.
